The Swordsman
My fascination for the middle ages led me to found the club Ars Gladii, one of the oldest HEMA-Clubs in Europe. In the beginning, I taught longsword, sword and buckler, dagger and staff among other weapons.
After 25 years, I still teach the sword and buckler regularly. For the past 25 years, I have delivered countless seminars, talks, and interviews across Europe. I was also featured in several newspapers, radio shows and a few times on TV. I published two books on swordsmanship that have been translated into English and Polish. I also worked with many Museums and Universities where I was honoured to add my knowledge.
The work with the original manuscripts of the late middle ages was and still is a wonderful experience. The reconstruction of these lost martial arts has been a wonderful journey. I had the immense pleasure to be among the first researchers who reconstructed this lost martial art. I learned a lot and found many good friends on the way. By some, I am considered to be one of the founding fathers of HEMA.
The motivation for this study was my desire to expand my knowledge of the medieval and Renaissance buckler, a small shield. The publication of two monographs, titled „The Book of the Buckler“ and „The Medieval and Renaissance Buckler“, has established myself as a global authority in this field. These works are widely regarded as the standard reference sources on the subject.
You’ll find more information on the club's website.
